He didn’t score in their final league match which ended 2-2 with Sheffield Wednesday last Wednesday, but striker Stern John was equally happy as Crystal Palace battled to the end to avoid being relegated from the English Championship Division.
And his late equalizer in a 1-1 draw with Derby County last month turned out to be maybe the club’s most vital point of the season as it helped to ensure Sheffield were unable to catch them in the end.
“We were overjoyed at the final whistle because the game turned out to be a tense one and Sheffield threw everything at us in an attempt to get the winner. But we put up a very brave fight and we held them off. Hats off to all the guys, the club and the fans for the effort,” John said.
“Now it’s a situation of seeing where the club can improve for next season to avoid getting into this kind of situation again. And I personally will be looking to see what is the best option for my career at this stage. Whether I stay on in England or move to another League will be one of the decisions ahead of next season,” John added. (May 9,2010)

Jan Michael Williams’ aspirations of playing professionally in Europe continues in 2010 but his move back to the continent will be on hold until work permit application can come through.
Goalkeeper Williams had been in Hungary last year before taking a personal decision to leave but is hopeful that Sheffield United, the club initially interested in his services, will continue to monitor his progress and maybe offer him another chance to play in Europe.
“At the moment all I can do is continue to make steady progress with the hope that another door will open. I am back with W Connection and if another opportunity comes knocking then I will look into it and see how it benefits my career,” Williams said.
“Right now it’s also about seeing whether the work permit can come through and whether Sheffield has anything to offer as it’s not going to be easy to break into the club at the moment. But firstly my aim is to ensure I can maintain a regular spot in the W Connection team and the national team before thinking of anything else.”(May 9,2010)
