KOREANS INFLICT 6-0 DEFEAT ON T&T U17S Print

South Korea’s National Under 17 Women’s team proved to be too much to handle for Trinidad and Tobago in the closing match of the three-match series at the National Football Centre in Paju as they turned out 6-0 winners on Saturday.

The result, an obviously disappointing one for the T&T contingent after their 3-1 win in the first match last week, was more of what the hosts had expected from the onset as they demonstrated just why they were crowned champions of Asia and are expected to pose as a threat in the FIFA Under 17 Women’s World Cup here in September.

HYLAND TEAM CHASES TOP 5 SPOT IN BELGIUM Print
Midfielder Khaleem Hyland has been a regular in the Zulte Waregem first team in the Belgium Jupiler First Division in recent times.

The former T&T Under 20 player was a starter in the team’s 2-1 loss to Gent on Monday before being taken off in the 89th minute. In his team’s previous 2-1 loss to St Truiden, Hyland played the full 90 minutes but was cautioned in the 37th.  Zulte are sixth on the table after 28 matches with 41 points. Anderlecht currently top the table on 69 pts with Club Brugge second on 57

In related news, striker Jason Scotland says he was a relieved man after netting his first Premiership goal in Wigan Athletic’s 2-1 loss to Fulham on Monday. "It was beginning to become a psychological thing but you just have to forget about it really," Scotland told the Wigan Evening Post. "You just have to take every game at a time, take every chance as it comes and just try to enjoy your football. It  comes, it comes. If it doesn't, it doesn't. You still have to keep plugging away.”

And Crystal Palace moved out of the relegation zone in the English Championship courtesy of two consecutive solid contributions from Stern John. He netted in their 3-1 win over Watford last week and also played the full 90 in Palace’s 3-1 win over Preston North End on Monday to move to 20th spot, one point off the relegation zone. And Carlos Edwards added an 81st minute goal to help Ipswich Town get past Derby County 3-1 on Monday and into a comfortable 13th spot on the Championship table. (April 7,2010)
