"Quotes for the Week"
"Life is full of surprises, isn't it?Football
is unpredictable. The important thing is the country is behind us, supporting
us, backing us at every turn."
Dwight Yorke on T&T's qualification for Germany 2006
"Quotes for the Week"
“As a player and as a
forward especially the first job on the field is to score so to come
and score is satisfying to some extent. It was a bit disappointing
that the team couldn’t progress on to the second round but we saved
some sort of pride in that we came out here and didn’t lose every game
and I felt that was important to this team." Errol McFarlane after
scoring an 87th minute equalizer in a 1-1 draw with Guatemala in Gold
Cup Group match at the Foxboro Stadium, Boston. June 13,2007
Blast from the Past
T&T's National Under 15
footballers, all making their debut, proved to be too much to handle for Bahamas
as they completed a 9-0 rout of their opponents in the second game of a double
header on the opening day of the Caribbean Football Union Youth Cup at the
Hasely Crawford Stadium.
T&T, coached by Reynold Carrington, were
originally
slated to face Aruba but had different opposition after the latter
and Grenada had problems getting into the country and are scheduled to arrive

standout, netting four times while Shahdon Winchester (38th), Dinnell Lopez
(47th), Anslem Jackson (52nd), Akeems Grant (65th) and Shaquille Stewart (72nd)

"I was already West Indian in my outlook before I went
there," the 63-year-old said. "It was the same in Mexico. For me,
Mexico was paradise in professional and personal life. Somehow I am
connected to this world, this Latin American, Caribbean world. I love
to be there. The point is, over the whole world there's only one
football culture and if you want to be successful - because basically
that's what it's all about - you have to embrace the football culture,
whatever the social culture you have been brought up with.
"These guys (his squad) might have a totally different mentality to the
European guys - not better or worse, but different."And they come into
my football
world, and my football culture, then it's the same job whether it's in
Spain,
Switzerland or Saudi Arabia." - Former T&T coach Leo Beenhakker,
talking about his love for the Caribbean, prior to T&T's first
match vs Sweden, June 9,2006
"Dwight
was the reason I came back. And also I've never turned my back on my
country and it was the perfect chance to come back and contribute as
best as I could. I realised it was really the last chance to fulfil a
lifelong dream for me and for Dwight. .Every kid dreams to play in the
World Cup. But saying it as a kid and doing it at the twilight of your
career are two totally different things. – Russell Latapy, on T&T’s
qualification for Germany 2006,(May 2006)
“This really is the biggest game of our lives. I’m just thinking about
playing to the best of our ability and getting over the game. I think
the worst result we can have is a draw. We know the situation with
Ghana. They won the World Cup twice but we are just prepared to go out
there tomorrow and play with all heart and come away with a win and if
not, a draw for the least – Leston Paul, captain of U-17 team on the
eve of T&T’s opening match vs Ghana at The FIFA U-17 World Cup in
Korea. (Aug 19,2007)
