Republic of Ireland women's under-17
head coach Noel King has announced a
21-player squad for the FIFA Under 17 Women's World Cup which will take place
in Trinidad and Tobago from 5-25 September.
This
Ireland squad will also travel to Ft Lauderdale for a warm up match against
Trinidad and Tobago on August 28. The Republic of Ireland team were
crowned winners of a tri-nation tournament played in Manchester at the weekend
as warm-up for next month's World Cup.
Following their 1-0 win over hosts
England on Wednesday secured by a Jenny Byrne winner, the Irish clinched
the title by drawing 1-1 against Denmark thanks to Siobhan Killeen's excellent
long-range shot that found the net.
Speaking at the squad announcement, King
said, “We travel to Fort Lauderdale for a week long training camp and I think
the games against tournament hosts, Trinidad and Tobago and New Zealand will
give us a real taste of what to expect when the tournament kicks-off in
September.
“We will be playing in conditions
similar to that of Trinidad and Tobago while gaining experience against teams
from two different continents. Preparation for the World Cup has been ideal but
we are obviously very disappointed with the injury sustained to midfielder,
Niamh McLaughlin which rules her out of contention,' he said.
Ireland will play their first ever
FIFA Women's World Cup game against South American side, Brazil on Monday, 6
September, before facing Canada on Thursday, 9 September with both games taking
place at the Larry Gomes Stadium.
King's team will complete their
Group 4 fixtures against Ghana at the Dwight Yorke Stadium in Tobago on 13
September. (August 24,2010)
