Josh Toussaint, Xaepierre De Fou and Valdez Pirez were recognised as the “Most Promising Players” in their respective divisions for the past season. The trio came in for high praise at a prize-giving ceremony which also saw the unveiling of the 38-team National Youth League of the Trinidad and Tobago Football Federation. The event took place at Jaffa Resturant at the Queens Park Oval, Port-of-Spain, on Tuesday.
The three outstanding players from the Under-14, Under-16 and Under-18 divisions received their awards of a trophy and a voucher valued at $500 worth of sporting goods representing the clubs which managed gold medal honours for their top-placed finishes when the league concluded. M&M Harvard received a voucher for $6,000 worth of sporting equipment, gold medals and a trophy for clinching the under-13 title, while 1st FC Santa Rosa and 1976 FC Pheonix Sports Club both received the same prizes for achieving reaching the same feat in the Under-15 and Under-17 divisions.
De Fou, 16 of 1st FC Santa Rosa plied his trade as a midfielder for most of the season, playing in every game and scoring several goals from the position. He will be likely to start the new season at the club playing in a similar role. The Santa Rosa Under-17 (Group A) team will kick off the season on Sunday at the Dibe Recreational Ground, Dibe. Under-13 matches will commence on May 14 at 9 am, while the Under-15 matches begin at 10.30 am on the same day. Four clubs will be featuring from Tobago in all three divisions including, 1976 Pheonix, Stokely Vale FC, St Clair Coaching School and Roxborough Lakers SC. Clubs from Trinidad include: Joe Public FC, Real Maracas, Westside Stars, Eagles United, WASA FC, Club Sando, St Francois Nationals, 1st FC Santa Rosa, M&M Harvard, QPCC, Cap Off Youths, Mayaro Spurs and Moruga Football Club.
