T&T SEALS SEMI-FINAL SPOT WITH 2-0 WIN |
A 65th minute goal by Southampton striker Stern John sealed Trinidad and Tobago's spot in the semi-final stage of the 2010 CONCACAF World Cup qualifying campaign as the "Soca Warriors" only just managed to pull off the necessary result, winning 2-0 over Bermuda at the National Sports Center on Sunday. After losing 2-1 at Macoya a week ago, the Francisco Maturana coached team needed to win by two clear goals or at least win with more than two goals on the board and they achieved the win with goals on either side of the half. Darryl Roberts opened the scoring with a well taken goal inside the box on ten minutes when he turned and fired home and John, a replacement for Jerol Forbes at the break, headed home from a left sided cross from Keon Daniel to silence over 5,000 Bermudans at the Stadium. T&T now looks ahead to a semi-final contest with USA, Guatemala and Cuba starting in August from which the top two teams will advance to the final stage of six teams.(June 2, 2008) Further reports to follow.
