LA FOREST AIMS TO LEAD GUAYA TO SUPER LEAGUE SUCCESS

Former Trinidad and Tobago National Footballer Ron La Forest is hoping to take Super League New Boys Guaya United to the top-flight of Trinidad and Tobago football.

La Forest took the helm of the then Eastern Counties team in June 2012 and immediately stamped his authority on the team letting his players know that their reputation counted for nothing, as his reputation was much bigger than theirs. He recalls that members of the Community would approach him, praising him for what he has done with the team, giving them a sense of pride, which was fulfilling for the man from Carenage, miles away in the west. St Augustine Secondary and National youth team standout midfielder Shannon Gomez says the recent run of form by the National Senior Men’s team and the influence of youth players on Stephen Hart’s team has inspired him to his current level of play.

Gomez scored one of his team’s goal in their 4-1 whipping of Fatima College in Tuesday’s Coca Cola Intercol Final at the Hasely Crawford Stadium. He’s been following the  T&T team in each of their recent performances and wins over Jamaica, New Zealand, United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Honduras, El Salvador and Mexico.

This year sees a milestone change with the introduction of the Under-12 developmental competition, which was implemented to create more direct involvement, with less players (seven) and a smaller pitch. It remains with the two Under-15 Boys and Girls divisions.
